balance: restorative healing offers life coaching, yoga, and mindfulness to provide tools for balancing on the tightropes of life

this is what yoga is: it is to undo the bonds that bind us to sorrow. It should be practiced with determination and without the despair that troubles one’s thoughts.

the process

Practicing yoga allows people to reconnect with the self through breath, strengthening one’s connection to their body and mind. Narrative based coaching sessions allow people to gain an awareness of their identity and how it is influenced by their lifestyle.

In my coaching sessions, I aim to create a conscious space for people to talk authentically and develop a better understanding of themselves. This involves taking deep breaths before a session, setting goals for self-healing, creating visual tools to help externalize a problem or map out life’s stressors. I ask questions to guide people through this exploration, but most of the time in a session is for the person to talk. I will create a supportive listening environment to help encourage the person to develop the thoughts and feelings of their day to day. Using a narrative framework, any intention or issue someone wants to focus on can grow into a bigger story, explaining the ins and outs of how it works and how they might be able to change it. This reconstruction is a part of creating new narratives that focus on “unique outcomes” where I help the person uncover moments of their life when they had a different story. These different stories may be more aligned with their authentic self, and through imagining what kind of life that inner self may want, it becomes easier to figure out real ways to make that dream feel a little closer.

Coaching with balance is similar to counseling in the sense that sessions can cover mental health concerns, but they don’t have to. I want my coaching sessions to be informative and to help you develop your own balancing techniques. I want everyone to be welcome to a coaching session, this is why I have a sliding scale and trade options available.

balace values transparency, restorative practices, empowerment, and creativity.

transparency - balance values sharing knowledge. Whether that involves finding resources on my website or taking a few minutes during a session to reflect on what I see myself doing, I want people to feel safe and informed.

empowerment - balance values being human. Helping you develop your understanding of yourself and your relationships empowers you to make changes in your life. Your health is your responsibility, and balance is here to help you figure out ways to help yourself.

restorative practices -balance values centering relationships and relational healing. My practice is about sharing pain and promoting vulnerability in communication.

creativity - balance values creation. Creative energy is the essence of life. Creativity inspires change, and balance is about change. Creativity has helped me escape into my mind, and through balance it is allowing me to give birth to something very real.

Restorative practices (RP) has a number of definitions. The graduate school I attended defines it as a social science “that studies how to strengthen relationships between individuals as well as social connections within communities” (IIRP Website). It involves transparency, equity, accessibility, and a centering of relationships. RP is about understanding that all things exist in relationship to others. I do not exist without you, and we do not exist without this planet. I explain RP in more detail on my resources page.
